A Photo a Day, for 18 years

I was intrigued by the title of an article on www.Foxnews.com the other day.  The title read “Daily Polaroids Detail Last 18 Years of NYC Man’s Life.”  I bet it got your attention too!  It was about a man named Jamie Livingston who took at least one photo of his life, every day, for 18 years.  It started as a College Project and it continued on til the day he died.  Oddly enough, he died at the age of 41 on the same day of his birth.  He passed away in 1997, and yes there is a picture taken on the very last day of his life.

You can check out the pictures here http://photooftheday.hughcrawford.com/ I actually spent a lot of time going threw them.  His friends have always wanted to do this for him, as a memorial and to share his life with others.  I think they did an absolutely amazing job.  They also put all of the pictures up at Bard College, which is the college where Livingston started the project.  It filled a wall 120 feet by 8 feet. 

It’s erie to go and look at the pictures.  Towards the end you can really see the decline in his health.  Apparently he lost his battle with cancer.  It’s so sad to think that a man with such a interesting outlook on life, had to die so young.

Think about all the pictures you have taken.  When you go back and look at them, most of them are taken of important things such as Birthdays, Weddings, Vacations, Family Gatherings, but what happens to all the other days?  There are so many days that have passed where you have no pictures, which can also mean they have been forgotten all together.  How many things have you done, and already forgotten.  I know this is true because I have looked back at pictures and not remembered the day when I took them.  It’s very scary to think of all the things in life that we have already forgotten.  How much of our past is missing from our memories? 

Livingston’s story has a very tragic ending.  I wonder, if he would have beaten cancer, how long would he have continued taking Photos?

Painting and Parent’s House

Well I finally managed to get my Dinning Room painted.  It took a lot longer then I wanted it to, but I ran into a lot of problems.  The main one was the old paint wanted to bubble because whoever painted it the many times before didn’t do it right!  So there was a lot of repairing to do, but it’s all done now!  All I have left to do is wash the floor, and then put all the stuff back into the room.  Once all that is done I will toss up some pictures.

I think my next project will be the front porch.  It needs to be stained and I want to change the color paint that is on the bottom part of the porch.  My mother picked the color when they still owned the house and I really don’t like it.  I want it to match our dark green fence.  So maybe that will be my next project since that is an outside job. 

My parents might actually finally be buying a new house.  They went and looked at a nice place last week and yesterday they went back and I went along.  It is a wonderful house in a beautiful neighborhood.  It actually seems perfect for them, but I don’t want to jump the gun to soon.  It is 3 bedrooms with two two car garages (yes, two garages), and it is a very open layout.  I guess they are putting an offer in on it tomorrow, so I will keep my fingers crossed.  I am so happy that they finally found something they like!  I just hope everything falls into place for them.

Well that’s all for now.  This is turning out to be more like my own journal then a blog, but oh well!
